Color Throw-down Challenge #256

This week on ColorThrowdown.Blogspot.com the color combo is as follows:
Pear Pizzaz
Very Vanilla
Pale Plum &
Rich Razzleberry
I just LOVE this inspiration - are you ready to see what I came up with?
Well I needed a Belated Birthday Card, 'cause I went and forgot my pen pal Natasha's birthday.
I knew that she would love this color combo too, so here is what I created.
Since learning the Out of the Template technique just a few days ago I wanted to give it another shot with a different type of image.
I didn't put a sentiment on this one. I thought it might get too cluttered if I did.
Let me know what you think!

Fall Thank You card using Circle Template (Outside the Template Cutting)

Today I am going to show you a technique called Outside the Template. In order to do this technique you will need dies (thinlits or spellbinder dies). First step is to stamp your image. I did a double stamp using a post-it note mask.

Next grab your die and align where you want the overlap of you focal image and where you what the die to set. Make pencil marks on the edges of where the die will meet your image.
Cut a straight line from the edges of your paper to the pencil lines and cut out your focal image.
Now put the cut are through the die and line back up to cut through the machine.
Here is what it looks like after being cut.
Next I cut a smaller and larger circle. The larger I did in a darker brown. The smaller I did in white and while the ring of the die was still on the circle I took a dauber and some Baked Brown Sugar ink and buffed the edges to create the bold white border. I then stamped the words using markers to create the variegated look.
I layered everything up, used some linen ribbon and attached to a card base, with some patterned paper behind.

You can do this technique with lots of different images. Just let your imagination run wild on this. I would love to see what you create from this tutorial. Post a link in the comments to your blog or email me a picture.

Manly Birthday Card

Creating a birthday card for men is difficult for me. I never know if the colors are too girly or what to put on the card. Then I saw a card (I can't even remember where so sorry whoever I stole this from) that used Designer Paper and cut them into ties.
The new Sweater Weather Designer Paper in the Holiday catalog was just perfect for this project.
I cut 3/4" strips of paper and used a 1" square punch to cut the ends. Here is the tricky part, you don't put the paper in the conventional way. You put the paper in starting in the punch area to get the cut to be the tie end. The greeting is from Sassy Salutations and I used Crumb Cake and Very Vanilla cardstock, and the ink is Chocolate Chip.
I just happen to know a guy (dad) who's birthday is coming up in a couple of weeks. He doesn't wear ties anymore, but I think he will still love this card.

My Manic Monday

Mondays in my day job are always stressful, but today was over the top. So today I will post some cards that soothe me. The first is a creation by my upline Jackie.  I love the colors, and would really like to have a day that is all about me.

The second is one I created for my July card class.  I love butterflies and these colors soothe me.

Hope this soothed away some of your stress today!

Color Throwdown August 3rd

This time on the Color Throwdown challenge the colors were Tempting Turquoise, Smokey Slate, Pumpkin Pie and Summer Sun. I substituted Daffodil Delight for the Summer Sun. I used the Swallowtail background stamp and the two sizes of butterfly punches. I hope you like my creation.
