Try it Tuesday - Floating Watercolor Reinkers

I am teaching a watercolor class on Saturday, so I have been researching lots of different types of watercolor techniques.
I came across this one, that I am not teaching in class. So I am trying it out here for you.

Here are the products I used (I also used Old Olive ink and the Secret Garden stamp set).

I started with some glossy paper and embossed the flowers in white embossing powder.

It is hard to see, but here is what they look like after being embossed.

Next I took my aqua painter and put water in each section of the flower.

 

I then took the tip of my aqua painter and dipped into drops of reinker and touched the water bubbles on the paper.

I used all three colors to fill in the whole area. Then pressed a clean paper towel into to remove the excess water.

I then cut them out and created the card.

I used a scrap of Calypso Coral and Crumb Cake. I stamped the stems and leaves from the Secret Garden stamp set.

Color Challenge

I found this color challenge on Color Throwdown
 The challenge was to use the colors Costal Cabana, Strawberry Slush, Crisp Cantaloupe and Rich Razzleberry. I had used the first three together before, but wedding the Razzleberry really brightened it up I think.

 I used the Mixed Bunch and Oh Hello stamp sets.

Sketch it Saturday

Here is a sketch I found on casethissketch.blogspot.com.

I liked the sketch and thought I would look great with the new In-colors. So I pulled out some scraps of Crisp Cantaloupe, Bermuda Bay, Strawberry Slush, Pistachio Pudding and Baked Brown Sugar. I also grabbed a strip of Whisper White. I used Baked Brown Sugar ink to stamp the setiment.

I real quick and easy card. It took less than 5 minutes once I got the sketch.

Tips and Tricks Thursday

Ever wonder how to get your clings lined up on your stamps perfectly? I hope this little tutorial will help.

First step is remove half of the protective covering from the cling. Remove the paper from the back of the stamp.

Second line up the stamp and press onto the cling backing.

Pull the stamp off with half of the cling attached.

 Remove the other half of the cling protective cover. I then use a little two way glue and let it dry so that it is a removable bond.

Whip it up Wednesday

This week is all about using your scraps. So I created a card just using pieces left over from card classes and other projects.
 First I gathered together colors and papers I thought looked complimentary.

 Next I cut the papers to layer on the card. I also punched two scalloped circles and a circle.

 I assembled the card layers.

 I cut the scalloped circles to make them look like flower petals.

 I layered two cut scalloped circles and then put a circle in the middle. I stamped the sentiment in Indigo Island. I used some dimensionals to lift the flower up.

 Scraps are always valuable and I was able to whip this card up in the time it took the oven to preheat.

Try it Tuesday

There are so many different techniques out there, so on Tuesdays I will give one a try. Today I tried a technique called marble paper with shaving cream. First here are the supplies you will need: paper plate, plastic knife, shaving cream, reinkers and white cardstock.

 The first step is to put shaving cream on the plate and spread.

 Next add drops from your reinkers into the cream. I used Daffodil delight, Tangerine orange and Tempting turquoise.

 Using the knife begin to marble the cream by cutting straight lines through.

Here is what mine looked like.

Now you are going to press your piece of cardstock into the cream. You want to make sure the whole piece gets put in.

Pull out and scrape off the majority of cream with the knife, then wipe off with some paper towel.

Next I used a scrap of Tangerine and Daffodil to create the card. I used the Love Labels to stamp a sentiment. I punched it out, wrapped some white twine, and done.

I made 5 pieces with one batch, but you can keep mixing and pressing paper in. Hope you enjoyed this trial.

Ask Me Monday

On Mondays I will answer questions that are sent in, or offer advice. Today I will discuss the difference between wood mounted stamps versus cling mounted stamps. Let me first say I do own both, but I prefer cling mounts.
Wood mounted stamps are bulky. They can be hard to line up if stamping letters and double images.
Cling stamps take up less space. They cling to clear acrylic blocks, which allows you to view where you are stamping. This makes two step stamping so much easier, as well as making words.

Sketch it up Saturday

In Sketch it up Saturday I will take a sketch from another site or source and create a card or project.
This week I am using a card sketch from one of my favorite places to get ideas: PageMaps.com
Here is the sketch that I got from there in the June Card Maps

I love the bird cage and knew that I had just the stamp set to work with this sketch. So I pulled out a discontinued (boohoo) stamp set called Aviary and went to work in making a cute card.
Here is my creation:

I used Stazon black ink to make the bird cage and then stamped the bird in Island Indigo. The paper is a retired DSP called Birds of a Feather. I used Whisper White cardstock along with a strip of Indigo Island. I created the scalloped edge by using the Adorning Accents Edgelits. I just recently purchased these and have been looking for a project to use them on.

Tips & Tricks Thursday

So today I am going to share with you how to dye your twine to match your card or project. For yesterday's card I wanted red twine, but didn't have any. So I took white twine and using a daubber to hold it on the ink pad pulled the twine across the pad to dye it.  Once I had ink on the twine I took a baby wipe to even out the color.  I held the twine in one hand and wrapped the wipe around and pulled down. You will need to let it dry a few minutes, then you are good to go. It is a messy tip, but it will allow you to have twine the perfectly matches your project.

Whip it up Wednesday

On Wednesday's I am going to be posting quick and easy cards.  Wednesdays are busy in our family with work and church, so simple is best.  Today I used the new Tape It and Sketch Letters to create.  I wanted a vintage feel so I stamped on crumb cake and then cut out. I used a foam dauber and Chocolate Chip ink to add color to the edges.  I didn't have red twine, so I used my Cherry Cobbler ink pad and ran white twine through it. The other ink color is Night of Navy. It took me about 10 minutes to make after I planned it out. But now you don't have to plan, just copy!

Crazy about Hexagons

From when the hexagon embossing folder was put into the Spring catalog, I was in love. Then the new annual catalog came out and there were these amazing hexagon stamps and matching punch. Well of course I had to purchase.
So here is what happens when you put both together. I used the new In-Colors of Strawberry Slush and Brown Sugar to create this hex-a-gone-crazy card.
The embellishment is a one of the In-Color Boutique Details.
